Keep on Teaching with Canvas

ARC’s Keep on Teaching with Canvas helps you to prepare for teaching online through activities designed to help you build on your skills to use Canvas. Working with one of your ARC colleagues who is an experienced online instructor, you will learn to engage your online students with your course content using practices to get the most out of our Canvas teaching and learning platform.

Learning Outcomes

During the Keep on Teaching with Canvas experience, you will be:

  • Enhancing your Canvas familiarity
  • Developing Online communication and Regular Effective Contact strategies
  • Learning about applying Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Accessibility principles
  • Working with Canvas Grades/Assessment/Rubrics tools
  • Learning about using Media to further engage your students

Schedule

You control the pace. You will be assigned to mentor who will meet with you and help you develop your plan of action. You will be enrolled in a Canvas course to access a wealth of information on getting set up in Canvas and at the same time, learning the best methods for online teaching and learning. And, there is no homework! Your mentor who will be your personal guide through it all, will help you achieve your goals. You can start May 1, 2020 or any time before the summer session begins. Your mentor will be assigned to work with you into the summer session if needed.

Activities include:

  • Creating a comprehensive Home Page
  • Creating and populating a Module
  • Creating Pages to present content and educational resources
  • Creating assessment items including Assignments, Quizzes, and Discussions
  • Adding and updating accessible text, images, and materials
  • Adding an Announcement
