Overview of Keep on Teaching with Canvas

ARC’s Keep on Teaching with Canvas helps you to prepare for teaching online through activities designed to help you build on your skills to use Canvas. Work with your ARC colleagues to learn how to engage your online students with your course content using practices to get the most out of our Canvas teaching and learning platform.

Learning Outcomes

During the Keep on Teaching with Canvas experience, you will be:

  • Enhancing your Canvas familiarity
  • Developing Online communication and Regular Effective Contact strategies
  • Learning about applying Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Accessibility principles
  • Working with Canvas Grades/Assessment/Rubrics tools
  • Learning about using Media to further engage your students

Schedule

You will be enrolled in a Canvas course to access a wealth of information on getting set up in Canvas and at the same time, learning the best methods for online teaching and learning. And, there is no homework! We will support you and answer your questions throughout your learning Canvas journey. You can start any time. Your support will be through mentoring and utilizing the ITC Drop-in labs which take place four times a week for the entire Fall 2020 semester. 

Activities include:

  • Creating a comprehensive Home Page
  • Creating and populating a Module
  • Creating Pages to present content and educational resources
  • Creating assessment items including Assignments, Quizzes, and Discussions
  • Adding and updating accessible text, images, and materials
  • Adding an Announcement
  • Developing a Gradebook
  • Using SpeedGrader
  • And much more!

(Flex Credit is available. This activity meets ARC Strategic Goal 3 Exemplary Teaching, Learning, and Working Environment and Goal 4 Vibrancy and Resiliency; ARC ISLOs 1, 2, & 5; and State PD Guidelines A, B, & C)
