The ARC Online Teaching Institute (OTI)

The OTI helps to prepare instructors for teaching online through exploration and hands-on demonstrations of effective practices in online instruction.

The Spring 2018 ARC OTI is scheduled for nine sessions between January 26, 2018 and April 20, 2018. There will be two sections: a hybrid section and an online section. The hybrid section includes five mandatory on-campus sessions on Friday mornings from 9 AM to 12 PM in the Instructional Technology Center Training Room. The online section follows the same calendar, however all of the sessions take place online. Registration will begin on October 9, 2017.

The ARC OEI Rubric Academy

Attend the OEI Rubric Academy and create an engaging and quality online learning environment for your students. Learn how to effectively align your course to the Online Education Initiative (OEI) Course Design Rubric (download). Become an OEI Rubric mentor for your department and/or area. Receive a stipend for your efforts.

The Spring 2018 OEI Rubric Academy is scheduled for five face-to-face monthly sessions beginning January 10, 2018 (during Flex week) through May 4, 2018. Registration will begin on October 9, 2017.

Save your D2L courses!

D2L will not be available for access after January 9, 2018. Now is a good time to download and save your D2L course materials so you can import them into Canvas should you decide to do that. Follow these instructions to export your D2L course, and then use this Canvas Guide help article called How do I import content from Desire 2 Learn (D2L) into Canvas? to import your D2L exported zip file into Canvas.

The ITC has almost 20 Canvas workshops remaining in 2017, including Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings. Find one that fits into your schedule and register now to save your spot!

Registration starts tomorrow, May 11, 2017, for both the ARC Online Teaching Institute and the ARC OEI Rubric Academy.

The ARC Online Teaching Institute (OTI) for Fall 2017 is a nine-session institute scheduled from September 1, 2017 through November 17, 2017. The ARC Online Teaching Institute (OTI) helps to prepare instructors for teaching online through exploration and hands-on demonstrations of effective practices in online instruction. There will be two sections: a hybrid section and an online section. The hybrid section includes five mandatory on-campus sessions on Friday mornings from 9 AM to 12 PM in the Instructional Technology Center Training Room. The online section follows the same calendar, however all of the sessions take place online. The ARC OEI Rubric Academy is a five-session academy scheduled from August 16, 2017 (flex week) through December 1, 2017. During this academy, attendees will participate in hands-on creation of an engaging and quality online learning environment for their students. Participants will learn how to effectively align their course to the Online Education Initiative (OEI) Course Design Rubric. At the successful conclusion of the academy,  participants can become an OEI Rubric mentor for their department and/or area and receive a stipend for their efforts. Registrations for both of these opportunities fill-up quickly, so register early to save your seat.

ARC Online Teaching Institute – Summer Session

The ARC Online Teaching Institute (OTI) summer session is now open for registration! Follow this link to the OTI information and registration page. The ARC Summer 2017 OTI is scheduled for nine sessions between June 2nd and August 3rd, 2017. This will be a fully online section.

  • You MUST have attended a Canvas Course Creation (3-hour) workshop within the last six months, or be currently using Canvas in your courses, BEFORE attending ANY of the Online Teaching Institute sessions. Visit theITC’s Workshops page for upcoming workshops. Priority will be given to ARC employees who have not completed a previous OTI and who are scheduled to teach at ARC in the Fall 2017 semester.

The ARC Online Teaching Institute (OTI) helps to prepare instructors for teaching online, through exploration and hands-on demonstrations of effective practices in online instruction. Please refer to the OTI Webpage for the schedule, prerequisites and expectations, and registration information.

Registration Dates

Registration for the ARC Spring 2017 OTI opened at 9AM on Thursday, November 3. There are 14 seats in each section. When the sections are full, you can add your name and information to the wait list, by section. Current American River College faculty and staff have priority registration. If space is available, faculty and staff from our sister colleges will be accepted into the OTI.
