Canvas

ARC has joined 90+ other California Community Colleges in the process of adopting Canvas as our new CMS (Course Management System).

The flexible timeline allows individual instructors to begin using Canvas for students in the Spring 2017 semester and all courses will be offered on Canvas in the Spring 2018 semester. D2L will no longer be available after the Fall 2017 semester ends.

Here is the official announcement from Deputy Chancellor Lorimar:

Greetings, Academic Senate Presidents, LMS Work Group, and Ed Tech Committee Members.

I am very pleased to report that Chancellor King has approved the recommendation of the District Academic Senate for the Los Rios colleges to join the statewide Online Education Initiative (OEI) and adopt Canvas.  The DAS, in making its recommendation, accepted the recommendation of the LMS Work Group.

Based on Chancellor’s King decision, DOIT is immediately requesting the required OEI and Canvas application forms and asking to reserve a place for our colleges in the Fall 2017 Canvas Cohort (Cohort #3) to begin the transition process.  I will inform you of the cohort decision as soon as I have that information.  Of course, there are many details to be decided over the next few months and I look forward to working with Academic Senate, LRCFT, and administration leaders to develop the appropriate processes within our governance system to implement this important decision.

You are welcome to share this information with your colleagues.  Many thanks to all of you for your hard working in making this outcome possible!

Sue Lorimer, Ed.D.
